MARY
LONGPRE
Photographer / Artist / Sailor
Born in Colorado in the 40’s, raised in Southern California.
Grew up surfing in the 50’s-60’s around Dana Point-San Clemente,
Calif.
Now lives in Newport Beach, CA
and Sedona, AZ.
Art major in High School and
Jr. College. Developed interest in photography
while traveling for husbands business.
Early art years were in mixed media of painting and drawing, now photography
dominates Mary's creative flow.
1978 Mary started racing sail boats. First 5 years a Schock 525 and
now a
Santana 30/30 and Harbor 20.
With the love of Sail Racing the America’s Cups became of extreme
interest to
Mary and her husband.
Feb. 1987 traveling to Perth, Australia and secured a spot on the ESPN
media
boat, a new career was born.
Now being part of the ‘LOUIE VUITTON Media Center’ offers
Mary many
opportunities to cover all these races.
Aug. 2001 to the Longpre’s
went to COWES, ISLE of WIGHT, ENGLAND to cover the
prestigious, once in several life times experience of the AMERICA’S
CUP
JUBILEE. The 150 year celebration of the AMERICA’S CUPS.
208 yachts racing for 8 days on the Solent, Mary produced 1200 photos,
digital and film.
The computer age offers wonderful opportunities in Photography and Art.
With the Digital revolution and many hours spent at the computer tweaking
and
manipulating her images, Mary has created a mixed style of Photo/Art.
Being a racer herself helps her
to anticipate and set up shots that bring joy
and excitement to her viewers. |
